The Federal Government has launched the Credit for Laptops, Internet Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) programme to provide Nigerians with affordable access to laptops, internet-enabled devices and other essential digital tools through structured consumer credit.

The initiative, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, is aimed at deepening digital inclusion and expanding nationwide access to digital technology.

The programme aligns with the Federal Government’s broader objective of expanding access to consumer credit, creating economic opportunities and improving the quality of life of Nigerians through responsible borrowing.

Launched in partnership with the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, C.L.I.C.K.D. offers eligible Nigerians affordable financing to acquire laptops, internet-enabled devices and other essential digital tools.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, described a functional consumer credit system as essential for national development.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Managing Director of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, for championing the initiative.

According to the minister, the programme will stimulate job creation, expand economic opportunities and support the administration’s vision of growing Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy.

Tijani noted that access to affordable credit enables individuals and businesses to acquire productive assets, improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to economic growth.

He added that the C.L.I.C.K.D. programme reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging technology and innovative financing to bridge the digital divide and ensure more Nigerians participate in the digital economy.

A major highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of laptop computers to selected beneficiaries by the minister.

Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, announced that the corporation would distribute 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible beneficiaries across the country.

He said the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with the digital tools needed to acquire in-demand technology skills, enhance learning and participate effectively in the digital economy.

Nwagba explained that the rollout commenced in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received laptops, while the remaining devices will be distributed to qualified beneficiaries in other states in phases.

He noted that the use of locally assembled laptops supports the Federal Government’s drive to promote indigenous manufacturing, strengthen Nigeria’s technology ecosystem and create jobs.

According to him, the programme will bridge the digital divide, expand access to digital skills training, support remote work opportunities and empower more Nigerians to thrive in the technology-driven economy.

He added that the initiative forms part of CREDICORP’s broader strategy to improve access to affordable digital devices and advance Nigeria’s digital inclusion agenda.
