Journalist Condemns Killing of OSPAC Commander, Three Others in Rivers

The South-South Bureau Chief of 9NEWS NIGERIA, Ambassador Emmalex David Atseyinku, has condemned the killing of the Omoku Zone OSPAC Commander, Comrade Ozoemela Stephen Wokocha, and three women who were reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.

In a statement issued on behalf of 9NEWS NIGERIA South-South, Ambassador Emmalex described the attack as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” warning that the recurring wave of violence poses a serious threat to the security and stability of the Orashi region.

He expressed concern over the continued loss of lives in the area, stating that no community can achieve meaningful development in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. He urged authorities to take decisive steps to halt the cycle of violence and protect residents.

The journalist called on the Rivers State Government, the Chairman of ONELGA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and other relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the killings, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

According to him, the government has a constitutional responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of citizens, adding that those behind the attack must not be allowed to evade justice.

“The safety of our people must remain the highest priority. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for stronger security measures and improved intelligence gathering to prevent further bloodshed. Those responsible for this heinous act must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted without delay,” he said.

Ambassador Emmalex further appealed to residents of Omoku and neighbouring communities to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist ongoing investigations.

He also extended the heartfelt condolences of 9NEWS NIGERIA to the families of Comrade Ozoemela Stephen Wokocha and the three women who lost their lives in the attack, praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased and for God to grant their families the strength and fortitude to bear the painful loss.

The Bureau Chief reaffirmed 9NEWS NIGERIA’s commitment to advocating for justice, accountability, and improved security across the South-South region and Nigeria as a whole.
