The Federal Government has dismissed eight officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), compulsorily retired five, and reduced the ranks of eight others for various acts of misconduct.
It also dismissed two junior personnel for criminal offences bordering on kidnapping, stealing, and illegal possession of firearms.
The disciplinary measures followed the recommendations of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee, which sat on July 11, 2025.
A statement issued on Thursday by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, explained that the Board reviewed 31 disciplinary cases involving officers and personnel of the Service.
He said, “Eight officers were dismissed from the Service for serious misconduct and violation of Service Regulations. In addition, five officers were compulsorily retired for offences bordering on misconduct, while eight officers were demoted by one rank.”
According to him, five officers also received written warnings, while the appeals of two dismissed officers were rejected due to lack of merit. However, one officer was reinstated after a successful appeal, and two others were exonerated of the charges against them.
Akinlabi further revealed that two junior personnel — Aliyu Usman (AII) and Chukwu Nancy Ngozi (CIA) — were dismissed after being found guilty of criminal conspiracy.
He said they faced proven allegations of stealing, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping, with disciplinary proceedings concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025.
The NIS spokesman stressed that the Service would not compromise on discipline, professionalism, and ethics.
“Under the supervision of the Chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) and Hon. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Nigeria Immigration Service, led by Comptroller-General KN Nandap, reiterates its commitment to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards across all cadres. The disciplinary actions will be carried out without fear or favour and in strict compliance with extant rules and regulations,” Akinlabi stated.
