super Eagles Head Coach, Jose Vitor dos Paseiro is full of excitement following the warm reception accorded the team by the Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Peseiro and his players were received by Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja last week.
The Super Eagles came second at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The three-time African Champions lost 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire on the final of the competitions.
The players and officials were awarded with National Honours, plots of land as well as flats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during reception.
Peseiro took to his social media media to show his appreciation to the President and Nigerians.
“Honoured and Proud”
“We were received and commended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who commended what we already felt from the Nigerian people, participating in AFCON made the whole Nation dream, happy and united, Peseiro wrote in his official X handle.
The coach said while he is sad that they could not bring the trophy to Nigerians, every one gave 100 percent commitment at the tournament.
“About the final, If you ask me, I think we did a fantastic job, our team showed very good spirit and played well. My boys did 100 percent, same for my staff and the Nigeria Football Federation.
“Of course, I would have liked to bring the Cup to Nigerian people, I’m sad about that. But of course I’m happy because I think we did a fantastic job. In the final I think we felt that atmosphere”, the Portuguese tactician said.
Peseiro thanked the President for inviting him to the Presidential Villa, saying that it was the first time in his 60 years he would be enjoying such privilege.
“First of all, I like to say thank you to the President. I am 60 years old, this is my first time some President invited me to his house.
“It is an honour and pride to me that President of the Republic of Nigeria for the invitation to come here. Thank you very much”, the Super Eagles gaffer stated.
