Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Borno State Governor has dispatched a high-powered delegation to evaluate the effects of the water overflow at Alau Dam, which caused damages and posses threat to some areas Maiduguri Metropolis and its surroundings.
This platform has earlier reported how the Dam overflow affected some communities in the state capital, causing significant damages to surrounding farmlands.
Alhaji Bukar Tijani, secretary to the state Ggovernment who led the delegation said their aims was to assess the situation and implement measures to mitigate potential flooding.
The Alau Dam, with a capacity of 112 million cubic meters, supports irrigation activities and supplies tap water to Maiduguri and Jere LGA.
During the visit, Engr Mohammed Zannah, acting Managing Director of Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA), assured the delegation that despite high water levels, the situation is under control.
Tijani, accompanied by experts from various state agencies, assured that Maiduguri is safe and the state government is working closely with CBDA to prevent flooding.
He dispelled rumors of the dam’s collapse, saying, ‘the dam has not broken down. We are taking steps to protect Maiduguri from flooding.’
The delegation’s assessment and assurance is aimed to alleviate concerns and ensure public safety amidst the situation.
However, the delegation are yet to discloed the result of their assessment at the time of filling this report.
