Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has appointed a former aspirant for the Imo North Senatorial District, Longers Anyanwu as a commissioner in the state.
This was announced on Tuesday 7 July, 2026, bringing into the Imo state cabinet a politician with years of experience in public service and grassroots mobilisation.
The new commissioner has remained an active figure in Imo politics, particularly in the Okigwe Zone, where he previously sought the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Imo North Senate seat.
Although he did not secure the party’s nomination, he continued to play a visible role within the APC and in the political development of the state.
Over the years, he has built a reputation as a grassroots politician, engaging with community leaders, youth groups and stakeholders across the six local government areas that make up the Imo North Senatorial District.
Anyanwu is no stranger to governance in Imo State.
He previously served as Commissioner under a past administration, where he contributed to policy formulation and implementation.
He also served as the Imo State Coordinator of the federal government’s Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), overseeing intervention programmes aimed at job creation, infrastructure development and social welfare initiatives.
His political career has been defined by sustained participation in party activities and advocacy for infrastructure development, youth empowerment and improved public service delivery.
Going beyond politics, the commissioner has held several leadership responsibilities in both public and private sectors, earning recognition for his administrative experience and commitment to community development.
His latest appointment is seen by political observers as both a recognition of his political consistency and an opportunity to leverage his administrative experience in advancing the governor’s development agenda for Imo State.
