Gov. Zulum’s deputy to serve as acting governor for 21 days

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur is to serve as acting governor of the state for 21 days.

Governor Zulum’s spokesman, Isa Gusau made the announcement to journalists in the state at the weekends. He noted that the development have been effected to start from April 29 to May 19, 2021.

He said Governor Zulum would be on a 21 days vacation during the period.

The Governor also requested that in compliance with provisions of section 190 (1) of the constitution, which made him notify the House, the Assembly should approve the Deputy Governor to serve as acting Governor throughout the 21 days, in order to constitutionally give him the full powers to handle Borno State’s affairs without resort to the Governor.

He made the request earlier on April 23 and was approved by the state house of assembly.

The approval was conveyed by the assembly’s speaker, Abdulkarim Lawan, in a letter dated April 26, 2021.

“Governor Zulum has directed all Government officials and institutions to fully comply with his transmission of power” Gusau said.

Kadafur is held from Biu local government area of the state. Biu have provided several deputy governors to the state governors. It is also home to the immediate former Chief Of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Yusuf Tukur Buratai.
