Group frowns at renewed Tiv, Jukun killings

The leadership of Tiv ethnic community in Taraba State has expressed sadness over renewed attacks and looting currently going on in the state , despite recent joint Security meeting embarked on by stakeholders from both Benue and Taraba States .

The group , which expressed dismay over the renewed crisis , yesterday , in Jailngo , the state capital , said there was no reason for Tivs and Jukuns to take up arms against themselves , as both ethnic groups had been living peacefully together for decades .

Led by the President General of Tiv Cultural and Social Association Taraba State , Chief Goodman Dahida, the group recalled that an expanded meeting of the Deputy Governor of Benue , Mr . Benson Abounu and his Taraba counterpart, Alhaji Haruna Manu , as well as traditional rulers from the two states was held on April 15, 2019, with a resolution that all parties should sheathe their swords and embrace peace .

Flanked by the group executive, he pleaded with the two ethnic groups to heed the resolution at the meeting, which had in attendance the Tor Tiv Prof James Ayatse and the Aku Uka of Wukari , Dr . Shekarau Angyu ,
Dahida and his group urged Taraba and Benue State governments to jointly provide enough security to flush out the criminals causing trouble in the area and restore normalcy “ for our people to resume their normal lives .”
