As part of its Legislative Responsibilities and Commitment to the people of Imo State, the Imo State House Of Assembly has moved to rescue the major link road of Umuna-Umuduru Egbeaguru Onuimo and Ndi Awa Ideato North and its accompanied bridges.

Moving the Motion, the Member Representing Onuimo State Constituency, Hon Chief James Uba Esile has, in tears, bemoaned the condition of this major link road that cut across 7 INEC Wards out of 10 in Onuimo Local Government Area, which he said hoodlums and criminal elements have taken advantage of, due to its current impassable state.

Hon Esile, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Culture, Tourism and Creative Arts, stated that the people of Onuimo are predominantly farmers and make living from their Agro and Farm produce, and as well export to neighbouring towns and local government areas. However, he noted that Agriculture and other socioeconomic activities have suffered terribly, due to the very bad condition of this major link road that connects Onuimo farmers to the various markets in other towns and local governments. This according to the lawmaker has made his constituents to be helpless.

Hon James Esile further lamented that the horrible state of the link road had aided acts of criminality, banditry and wanton killings between Ideato North and Umuduru Egbeaguru Autonomous Community in Onuimo local government, as over 75% of Ndi Onuimo access their homes, communities, businesses, markets and farmlands through this major link road.

Nevertheless, Hon Esile, who described Good And Durable Roads as a major source to fight insecurity and criminality in the society, commended Governor Hope Uzodimma, for flagging off and completing the Owerri -Okigwe quality road, which passed through Onuimo Local Government Area, expressing confidence that with the People’s Governor on the drivers seat, the Umuna-Umuduru Egbeaguru and Ndi Awa link road, together with its bridges would be rehabilitated. In his words, Hon Chief James Uba Esile said, “If this major link road is rehabilitated, the long suffering people of Onuimo, who have been starved of basic amenities, would be relieved. Also Economic activities between Onuimo and Ideato local governments shall be enhanced, thereby further contributing to the economic growth and development of the State, especially in the provision of employment opportunities for our youths, in trade and agriculture”.

The Media-Friendly lawmaker therefore appealed to his Honourable Colleagues to add their voices so that the Motion would receive the proper attention it needed.

The Member Representing Ehime Mbano Constituency, Hon Engr Bernard Ozoemelam, who seconded the Motion stressed on the need to have the road rehabilitated, especially, now that the rains are here. The Motion was co-sponsored by 7 lawmakers, including :

  1. Hon Sam Osuji.
