How I Nearly Withdrew From 2023 Presidential Race – Tinubu Reveals

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu disclosed that he almost withdrew from the 2023 presidential race due to over whelming challenges but was persuaded to stay by the former Governor of of Katsina State, Aminu Masari.

President Tinubu shared this revelation at a special Iftar at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he thanked guests for their support and contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Reflecting on a difficult moment, Tinubu recounted a relative who blamed him for the Naira scarcity at the time. The relative claimed people were suffering due to his candidacy and doubted the chances of winning.

Tinubu admitted that the conversation made him consider quitting but ultimately reaffirmed his resolved.

Masari and other allies encouraged him to stay the race, assuring him of their backup.

“When I came to Abuja, Masari told me, I am the Chairman of the North West Group, don’t look back”, Tinubu recalled.

Tinubu acknowledged the tough economic landscape he inherited and the difficult choices he had to make, including the removal of fuel subsidies in his first day in office

“I know it was the right thing to do for our nation’s future”, he said.

Vice President Kashim Shettima praised Tinubu’s bold leadership, stating that his decisions have tackled long-standing issues such as fuel subsidy fraud and forex instability.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio described Tinubu as the most audacious leader in Nigeria’s history, while other dignitaries, include governors and ministers lauded his vision and resilience.

The event also featured prayers , led by the Imam of the National Mosque, seeking divine guidance for President Tinubu and Nigeria’s progress.
