Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has stated that while she is a feminist, she does not support women disrespecting their husbands.
Akindele made the remark during a media event in Lagos on Wednesday, where she addressed issues of gender equality, marriage, and family values.
“I am a feminist, but I don’t support a woman disrespecting her husband.
“Feminism, to me, is about empowerment, equality, and respect, but that does not mean disregarding the values of marriage.” She said.
Her statement has drawn mixed reactions online, with some applauding her for advocating balance between feminism and traditional family roles, while others argue that feminism is about challenging outdated gender norms.
Akindele, who has long championed women’s empowerment in the film industry, clarified that respect in relationships should be mutual.
“Marriage is a partnership, and respect should go both ways.
“A woman can be strong, independent, and successful while still honoring her relationship.” She added
The actress and producer has been vocal about women’s rights, often using her platform to inspire young women to pursue their dreams.
