A Nigeria man has shared his challenging journey after selling his two homes to move abroad in search of better opportunities.
Speaking candidly about this experience in Amsterdam, he revealed the harsh realities he faced after relocating.
In a social media post, the man who explained that he sold both his home and tenant property in Nigeria as part of his decision to “japa” (relocate abroad).
“This na my second house when I dey Nigeria, I build am without stress finish am under 6 months”, he shared.
However, the transition to life abroad proved to be far from easy. He described working tirelessly in harsh conditions, doing manual labor that included washing plates and cleaning toilets.
“I dey work for cold, wind, and rain, do two shifts everyday, Monday to Sunday, plus University classes in between” he said.
For over two years, he didn’t take a break, nor did he have time to party or relax. The physical strain, he needed, had led to waist pain from the constant washing of plates and cleaning of toilets.
Reflecting on his past decision, he advised others to thrive carefully before making similar decision.
“Before you sell your houses to travel go abroad, sit down and strategize well. E no go easy to get am back”, he warned.
He emphasized the importance of making a well-thought-out decision, noting that seeing others past glamorous pictures online can be deceiving.
The man also highlighted the challenges international students face with tightened immigration laws and limited jobs opportunities, particularly office jobs.
“No office job dey wait for you here unless na through tech skills or job sponsorship you take enter”, he cautioned.”.
The constant pressure of of school activities and immigration concerns, he added, could leave many feeling overwhelmed.”
In his post , he reassured his followers that he wasn’t trying to discourage them from moving abroad, but rather wanted to show the reality of living overseas.
