AWKA (9News Nigeria) – PDP Aspirant in the forthcoming 2021 Anambra State Governorship election, Dr Ifedi Okwenna, has called on Anambra State leaders and Stakeholders to find a credible way of ensuring the emergence of a competent and capable Governor for the State in 2021 Governorship election.
Dr Ifedi made this remark while addressing a section of Anambra State Stakeholders who converged at Nri, Anaocha Local Government, under the aegis of Ife Anambra.
The Ugwumba Osumenyi reminded the stakeholders drawn from across Political parties that Anambra is blessed with abundant human and natural resources, and all that is needed is a leader who can put all these resources in the right composition to make the State work.
Dr Okwenna stated that: “Anambra is not lacking in gifted leaders, but most times, we fail to allow quality leaders emerge and govern our State because of wrong values and non-sustainable choices, that those who ought to follow are allowed to lead.”
Dr Okwenna thereby extolled the quality leadership attributes of Peter Obi, who showed that “Anambra State is not cursed rather that we are the cause”.
The former Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Mineral Resources, Science and Technology stated that he is in the race to govern Anambra State; To make Anambra State a prime destination for youths in Nigeria; to become a centre of commerce, trade, agriculture, industry, science and technology, and a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship development.
Dr Okwenna stated that he wants to enthrone a system where the government does its job, caring for and protecting its citizens anywhere they may be. To lead a government that restores the pride of Ndi Anambra once again and make them willing to create and own her narratives.
The Director-General, World Igbo Summit Group, said he has started the preparation to becoming the Governor of the State right from his Primary 4 and because of the long preparation, he has less baggage and more quality plans and ideas to deploy to build Anambra State.
He stated that: “without sounding immodest, I am humble, honest, and has the ability to apply a bottom-top approach to governance”. He said he is approachable and can network and reason with the people and that he has innovative development strategies that are people-centred, leveraging on the defined socio-economic identity of Ndi Anambra.
Dr Okwenna said that he has the ability to lead Ndi Anambra in creating her narratives, defining and owning them, thereby making the people feel invested in the Anambra brand. He also said that he will be able to stand for Ndi Anambra and Ndigbo generally in all the four corners of the globe whenever the need arises and will extract the best of Ndi Anambra to develop the State.
The erudite, cerebral and innovative Governorship Aspirant, said that he is determined to provide leadership with strong political will and shall be transparent, accountable and will apply the due process in all public procurements to ensure that Ndi Anambra get the real value for their money.
He further promised to be prudent and ensure that his government is not wasteful and flamboyant. He said he will discharge his duties diligently and honestly, providing equal opportunities for all with meritocracy as his guiding principle.
Finally, Dr Okwenna said “My Government shall be committed to developing and fostering the ‘Anambra brand,’ founded on trust and integrity. We must rebuild the government’s reputation such that our credibility will not be in doubt”. He promises to commit to heading an administration that will change the perception of government in the eyes of Ndi Anambra and other Nigerians.
Thanking Dr Okwenna for addressing them, the leader of Ife Anambra, Chief C. C Oli, expressed appreciation for his eloquent, well-articulated, hope-filled speech.
He said Dr Okwenna’s practical knowledge of Anambra, his innovative ideas, experience, strong political will are the qualities needed now to propel Anambra State to an enviable height.
Chief C. C Oli also said that with the support from well-meaning Anambra stakeholders like themselves, Dr Okwenna’s aspiration will be realised for the good of the State. He prayed God to continue to lead Dr Okwenna and his team.
Various other speakers appreciated Dr Okwenna for giving them hope of possible new dawn in Anambra State.
