The Igbo Youths Council has condemned the arrest of the prominent human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi, describing it as a deliberate attempt to silence the voice of Nigerian masses.
The group, led by Igboayaka Igboayaka, described Farotimi as an advocate for social justice and a champion of the people expressing dismay over the manner of his arrest by the Police as captured in a viral video circulating online.
The group further criticized the alleged involvement of legal luminary Pa Afe Babalola, SAN, in the incident, urging him to reconsider his position to preserve his hard earned reputation.
Highlighting Farotimi’s contributions, the group notes that his impartiality and commitment to justice have been instrumental in fostering accountability and transparency in Nigeria governance, calling the Police to respect the fundamental rights and reconsider actions that undermine democracy and justice in the country.
