IMHA Amends Hotel Occupancy, Restaurant Consumption Tax Law, Adopts Additional Curriculum In Imo Schools

🟢 Skill Acquisition, Entrepreneurship and Craftsmanship now compulsory in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary

The Imo State House Of Assembly IMHA has on Thursday March 14, 2024 passed a Bill for a law to provide for skill Acquisition and Craftsmanship as mandatory course in all Primary schools and Secondary schools and for the establishment of skill Acquisition Craftsmanship centre in Tertiary Institutions in Imo State and for other related matters.

The Bill was chiefly sponsored by Hon Gilbert Nwosu and co- sponsored by Honourables; Hon Dominic Ezerioha, Samuel Otuibe, Chigozie Nwaneri, Francis Agabiga, Obinna Egu and right Honourable Kennedy Ibeh.

Secondly, a Bill for a law to amend the Imo State Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption Tax Law number 35 of 2019 was adopted by the House as presented by the Deputy speaker Rt Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu and supported by fellow Honourables colleagues.

In a related development, motion to urge the Executive Governor of Imo state, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma to direct the Ministry of Environment to stop the direct discharge of liquid Waste into gutter by Hoteliers, Eateries, Bars and Allied food dealers was presented at the floor of the house.

While presenting the motion, the sponsor, Rt Hon Ikpamezie stated that whereas the liquid Waste from the aforementioned dealers are directly channeled into the gutter for disposal , the gutters within these business locations are either blocked or poorly drained.

This particular motion was co-sponsored by Honourables; Henry Agbasonu, James Esile, Bernard Ozoemena, Ikenna Ihezuo, Kelechi Ofurum and Samuel Osuji.

Ikpamezie added that such liquid wastes constitute stench of odour that emits from the gutters within the location of this business areas which is inimical to Human health and the environment.

This bill was enacted by Imo state house of Assembly IMHA on the plenary held Thursday at the hallow chamber before the Honourable members able led by the speaker Rt Hon CHIKE OLEMGBE.

While presenting the bill , Rt Hon Olemgbe took his time to go through the order number H.A.B.5 and 10 as contained in the bill and there was massive support by Honourable members.

In furtherance, the motion was moved at an earlier sitting and passed through several readings as deemed fit before the (Committee of the whole House) and was finally passed as a Bill.

Majority Leader IMHA Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi (Egbe) added his voice and supported the motion by requesting that food vendors, hoteliers and other allied dealers have to be checkmated.

Rt Hon Onyemaechi proposed that the proprietors of such establishments be summoned for questioning.

Hon Onyemaechi added that these hoteliers should be invited to IMHA to have proper interface and caution.

It was resolved by the Honourable house to direct all Hotels, eateries, bars and allied food dealers to make provision for soak-away where all their liquid Waste will be channeled for discharge to avoid osmic pollution.

Ministry of Environment and other relevant agencies to ensure that all outfits inviting this osmic pollution do comply to the directive to avoid closure of such facilities.

At this point, the House Adjourned to 21st day of March, 2024.
