IMO: Members of the Imo State House of Assembly Committee on Works, Public Accounts, Ethics and Privileges have expressed satisfaction over the extent of work done at the New Imo International Conference Center, IIC, Owerri.
The Lawmakers bear their heart when they paid an inspection visit to the project site Opposite Warehouse Junction, Orlu Road Owerri as part of their oversight function.
The Chairman of the Committee and Chief Whip of the House, Mr. Chigozie Nwaneri disclosed that the essence of their visit was to have a first hand information about level of jobs done and to also know if their are challenges that could make the contractor not to deliver the project in same quality as prescribed by the State Government and on time too.
Mr. Nwaneri who is also the representative of Oru East Constituency said that they were impressed with what they have seen so far on ground, noting that the Governor, Hope Uzodinma who is known for doing quality works was desirous of delivering the World Class Conference Center for Imo people in few months time.
The Committee Chairman equally commended the contracting firm for a job well done and expressed optimism on his ability to deliver based on the speed of work seen at the inspection visit.
The Contractor handling the Project, Sir Bennett Nwokejiobi who was speaking after taking the Lawmakers on inspection tour of the project explained that the 7,000 capacity International Conference Center would have been fully completed before now if not for the rainy season.
He thanked the Lawmakers for finding time to visit the project site, adding that their visit had boosted his morale the more in doing quality jobs for the State and assured that the New Imo International Conference Center, project would be completed in record time.
Meanwhile, the project has gone near to completion as the project contractor has promised to unveil the project before the end of year 2024 as 9News Nigeria correspondent reports.
The visit featured the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Amara Iwuanyanwu, Majority Leader, Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi, Member for Ohaji/ Egbema Constituency, Dr Uzoma Osuoha, that of Ngor Okpala Constituency, Dr. Obinna Egu, his Mbaitoli Constituency Counterpart, Sir innocent Ikpamezie, Lawmaker for Owerri Municipal Constituency, Chief Clinton Amadi, his Ideato South Constituency Colleague, Chief Johnson Duru as well as the Committee Clerk, Lady Jane Njoku.
Recll that the Imo International Convention Center IICC Owerri was demolished by the Uzodinmaās administration after series of quality control reports kicked against the low standard of work that posed danger to the state, done by the Okorochaās administration. The unveiling of the New IICC Owerri will not exceed December 2024 as 9News reports from Owerri.
