Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to consider investing in the country.
The governor made the remarks while welcoming Edo indigenes who recently returned from South Africa following Xenophobic riots.
The governor also pledged financial support of ₦1 million to each of the returnees.
According to Okpebholo, returning home offers greater opportunities for personal growth and economic success, urging citizens to explore investment prospects in Nigeria rather than relying solely on opportunities abroad.
“The most important thing is that you’re back home. It’s even better to be in Nigeria than abroad. Since I became governor, I’ve only travelled outside the country once.
“What am I looking for that’s not in Nigeria?” he said.
The governor added that travelling abroad often comes with challenges, including visa restrictions and high travel costs, while investments made within Nigeria could yield substantial returns within a short period.
“Travelling abroad is even a setback because you’ll struggle to get a visa and buy a flight ticket, but if you invest in Nigeria, within a short time, you can make a lot of money,” Okpebholo stated.
The governor’s gesture forms part of efforts by the Edo State Government to support returnees and encourage reintegration of citizens coming back from overseas.
