The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved the extension of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME and the Direct Entry (DE) registration by two weeks.

JAMB’S registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced the extension at a press conference, Saturday, in Abuja.

Mr Oloyede said the extension of the date was necessitated by the challenges experienced by candidates in the ongoing 2021 UTME registration exercise.

He listed some of the challenges experienced to include non-compliance with the registration process, wrong NIN to generate profile code and multiple phone numbers to generate the code.

He said a total of 1,134,424 candidates have so far registered as of the time the press conference was held.

JAMB had insisted in March, before the 2021 UTME registration commenced on April 28, that NIN is a compulsory requirement to register.

Prior to 2021, JAMB had made the NIN mandatory for the candidates willing to register for its examinations but later announced the cancellation of the policy following the widespread complaints about the harrowing process at the various registration centres.
