The woman who initiated the food price protest in Minna, Niger State has been arrested by the Nigerian Police for organizing this heroic act.
A yet-to-be-confirmed report states that the Nigerian Police have apprehended the woman responsible for initiating the protest against soaring food prices in Niger State.
9News Nigeria gathered from a post on X (formerly Twitter) that she and other women involved in the protest are to be arraigned by the Police.
The mass protest in Minna, Niger State, which focused on the escalating cost of food and the deteriorating economic conditions, has created a stir within the Bola Tinubu administration. It also played a role in influencing the President’s decision to issue directives to relevant officials, urging them to implement immediate measures to curb the rising food prices in the nation.
Youths and women from Niger State have taken to the streets of Minna, expressing their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as the severe hardships and the increasing cost of living in the country.
The protest began when a group of women blocked the Minna-Bida Road at the well-known Kpakungu Roundabout. Their objective was to voice their grievances regarding the suffering they believe they have endured under the Bola Tinubu government. As time went on, men and young people joined them, preventing vehicles from moving forward.
The Nigerian public has expressed their opposition to the arrest of these women through various social media platforms. One tweet, posted by Omoyele Sowore (@YeleSowore), has gained significant attention.
