JUST IN:NBA chairman disgraced out of NEC meeting in Abuja

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has suspended the Chairman of its Ikorodu branch, Mr. Bayo Akinlade, over alleged insubordination.

The suspension was executed on Thursday at the ongoing NBA-NEC meeting in Abuja.

Akinlade’s suspension was sequel to a report by the NBA Vice President II, Dr. Foluke Dada, who accused Akinlade of refusing to halt the Ikorodu bye-election for the Ikorodu vice chairmanship position.

Afterwards, she moved a motion for his suspension on the basis of alleged insubordination which was overwhelmingly adopted by members.

Against that backdrop, the NBA- NEC temporarily relieved the embattled branch chairman of his position both in the IKorodu branch and the national leadership of the association.

Consequently, Akinlade will face disciplinary committee for disobeying a directive issued by the top hierarchy of the association with regards to the supplementary election of his branch’s vice chairman.

The NBA-NEC went further to void the purported election with a directive that the new vice Chairman elect should not and must not conduct herself as the vice Chairman of Ikorodu branch.

The Council appointed Tony Ogbeide Esq., as acting chairman of the branch.
The NBA through the General Secretary, Jonathan Taidi Gunu had asked Akinlade to furnish the National Secretariat with the reasons behind his decision, but Akinlade replied the Secretariat, saying he does “not have the power to cancel the election.”
