In a bid to salvage Nekede Owerri west Imo state, an umbrella Union NFU is set up to attract developmental projects to the three regions of Nekede comprising of Umualum, Umudibia and Umuoma.
Since then, its relationship with springboard unions like Mezie Umuoma and others is commedable. The same brotherly marriage has brought on board brotherly zeal and mindset to develop the area without laying all eggs in the basket of government.
This group led by Elder Tony Ajoku was in the meeting with NFU where matters of developments were discussed.
Some projects like Mmiri Nkwoahia, Health Centers, Civic halls and Community Markets and the urgly state of Nekede roads to mention but a few are the major challenges that need prompt action.
Presently the Unions and private individuals from Nekede are jointy making efforts to establish remedial work on the sinking Mmiri Nkwoahia bridge located at Number 12 bus stop Nekede.
Meanwhile, following renewed interest and incesassant demands from well meaning sons and daughters of the Umuoma Autonomous Community (Home, Abroad and in the Diaspora) a meeting was convened to discus the seemingly intractable but surmountable problem militating against the development and well being of the Community, with a view to charting a road map for the development of Umuoma Autonomous Community into a modern progressive Community. After the inaugural meeting, the Honourable members resolved to adopt the name Mezie Umuoma Development Movement, to serve as an operating vehicle to articulate their common vision and aspirations.
In furtherance to the realization of their vision, the group appointed a six man committee to brainstorm and diagnose the immidiate problems facing the community, as well as propose short term measures pending the reactivation of the Umuoma people’s assembly, and the election of the executives of the Umuoma people’s assembly.
The members of the committee have sat severally and after careful deliberations came up with the following observations and suggestions;
- To ensure that there is Accountability in the handling of the affairs of Umuoma
- To look within the Community and stimulate internally generated funds
- To review Umuoma Constitution
- To Respect the Stool of the Eze of Umuoma , and to give him Due rights
- To cleanse Umuoma community of criminal elements within the Community
- To collaborate with Umuoma Indigenes in different Towns, Cities outside Umuoma, and in Diaspora, for the Development of Umuoma Community
In partnership with the umbrella body which they are members, Nekede Federated Union NFU under the leadership of High Chief Zanders, Director ZandersFM radio owerri as its National President, has assured that there is no doubt Nekede will bounce back again to improve their collective goals and develop the area.
A cash of Four hundred thousand naira was donated by Mezie Umuoma to support the remedial work on Otamiri bridge project which the contractor having been mobilized by community efforts and donations is likely to start work this Thursday morning.
