The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy Ohaneye has paid an action visit to the communities of Pygba Sama and Kpaduma in Abuja, to sensitize them on the need to stop their unacceptable acts towards their “girl child” within the communities.
It has been a norm in kpaduma and pygba sama communities to iron their girl child’s breasts in order to make them look less attractive to men with the believe that it will help the girl child live a better life.
The Honourable Minister visited their communities to sensitize them to the new law the Ministry was about to pass against breast ironing and other social norms, as well as the consequences of such actions.
She explained that the news would be spread in their communities using town criers because she won’t need anyone to give an excuse of “I was not informed” and after that, any parent who is found wanting would have to face the mobile court for immediate prosecution because every child is government’s child.
The Honourable Minister thereafter promised the people sustainable empowerment which would be mapped out in the first week of January for their communities. She also gave them an ultimatum to stay away from our girl child’s breast.
The communities through their District head EMMANUEL ACHEZHI GADEWARU appreciated the Hon Minister and said they were too small for such an august visitor. He then promised to sign an M.O.U with the Minister not to ever allow such in their various communities again.
The Minister finally appreciated them with some gift items while the community reciprocated by giving her a chieftaincy title: “THE QUEEN OF WOMEN OF PYGBA” and decorated her with their traditional attire.
The District head equally made commitment of their support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
