Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) condemns burning of churches and mosques in Plateau

Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed its strong condemnation of the recent attacks in Plateau State, specifically the killings in Kwahaslalek village, Mangu Local Government. The organization also denounced the acts of violence perpetrated against places of worship in Plateau, labeling the burning of churches and mosques as both “barbaric and satanic.”

In a statement released on Thursday, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the Executive Director of MURIC, urged the residents of the village and the wider state to peacefully coexist and called for an end to the wanton destruction of lives and properties. The statement emphasized the significance of treating houses of worship with respect and highlighted the need for peaceful coexistence.

MURIC firmly stands against such acts of violence that result in the loss of innocent lives and the destruction of sacred places. The organization believes that such actions are not only barbaric but also go against the principles of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect that are essential for a harmonious society.

The burning of churches and mosques is seen as an attack on religious freedom and a direct affront to the values of unity and religious tolerance that Nigeria upholds. MURIC calls for unity among all religious and ethnic groups in Plateau State, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, understanding, and respect for one another’s beliefs.

As a respected voice in advocating for justice and human rights, MURIC urges the authorities to take swift action in bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring that such acts of violence are prevented in the future. The organization believes that through education, awareness, and a commitment to peaceful coexistence, Nigeria can overcome these challenges and build a society where all citizens can live without fear of violence or persecution.

The organization calls for peaceful coexistence among all residents and emphasizes the importance of respecting places of worship. “MURIC stands firm in its commitment to promoting peace, justice, and religious tolerance in Nigeria.,” it says.
