Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on Northern leaders to place greater priority on education as part of efforts to address the challenges associated with the Almajiri system.
Mutfwang made the call in Demsa, Adamawa State, during the 70th birthday celebration of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the unveiling of a library and administrative blocks at the Lutheran University of Nigeria.
The governor described education as a critical tool for promoting peace, economic prosperity and human development, stressing that Northern leaders must demonstrate strong commitments to tackling the Almajiri challenge.
According to him, the continued existence of the problem poses a major threat to the economic and human development of Northern Nigeria.
Mutfwang also highlighted the role of religious institutions in advancing education and societal development, noting that investment in knowledge remains essential for building peaceful and prosperous communities.
He commended Boss Mustapha for using his personal resources to construct the library and administrative blocks at the university, describing the gesture as a significant contribution to education and national development.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, praised Mustafa for choosing to invest in education and human capital development rather than personal projects.
Fintiri urged other prominent and successful Nigerians, particularly sons and daughters of Adamawa State, to emulate the former SGF by investing their resources in projects that would improve the lives and future of the people. The governor maintained that education remains one of the strongest weapons for fighting poverty and insecurity.
Mustapha, in his remarks, said his decision to undertake the projects was driven by his desire to contribute to the development of education in Nigeria.
The projects were commission’sed as part of activities marking Mustapha’s 70 birthday celebration.
