A new leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the pan-Igbo group, will emerge in January next year, its President-General, Prof. Gary Enwo-Igariwey, has said.
He hinted on Sunday that his administration would handover office to a newly-elected leadership of the Ohanaeze in January 2017 and denied speculations that the election may be postponed.
In an exclusive interview with The AUTHORITY when he surfaced at Ohanaeze National Secretariat at Parks Avenue, Government Reserved Area (GRA), Enugu, after a long absence due to his medical trip abroad, Igariwey said that members of the electoral committee will be announced on Thursday at the next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the organisation.
Igariwey admitted that his long absence delayed the constitution of the electoral committee but promised that the election of his successor will follow the constitution of Ohanaeze, which stipulates a four-year tenure.
According to him, the election will be guided by the zoning principle enshrined in the Ohaneze Constitution which permits the rotation of the principal officers of the organisation among the five states in the South East zone and Igbo-speaking tribes in the South-South zone of the country.
