NEW YEAR 2025: All Smiles In Borno As Governor Approves Settlement Of Pensions, Gratuities

Retired civil servants in Borno State, including school teachers, have reason to celebrate New Year as Governor Babagana Umara Zulum approved a payout to settle their pensions and gratuities.

Zulum made the announcement on Wednesday at Government House, Maiduguri.

The payment he said, covers liabilities from 2019 to 2021.

Retired permanent secretaries and civil servants will receive ₦6 billion, while school teachers will get ₦2 billion.

This development aims to alleviate the economic burdens of the retirees.

Since assuming office in 2019, Governor Zulum’s administration has paid about ₦25 billion in gratuities.

“Since I took over in 2019 to date, we have paid about 25 billion naira for the settlement of gratuities for those that have worked with local and state governments,” Zulum said.

He released N3bn in June and September, 2019, to clear gratuities of 1,684 retirees that left the civil service between 2013 and 2019 and disbursed over N12b in 2020 for retirees that left both the state and local government civil service between 2013 and 2017.

Zulum also pledge to settle all outstanding gratuities and pensions before the end of his tenure in 2027, a move that will ignite hope to retirees who have been waiting to receive their entitlements.
