1st October, 2020

Dear Compatriots

It is with utmost pleasure I send greetings to Nigerians on 60th Independence Day anniversary.

Today being 1st October 2020 is day for us to collectively reflect and remember the sacrifices made by our Founders and great leaders past; by soldiers, by distinguished public servants; by traditional leaders, by our workers —- sacrifices on which Nigeria has been built over the 60 years since Independence in 1960; and rededicate ourselves to attaining the goals which we have set for ourselves: a united, prosperous and purposeful nation in the face of 21st century opportunities and challenges.

The ethos of our freedom struggle forms the foundation of modern Nigeria. Our visionary leaders brought together a diversity of world views to forge a common national spirit. They were committed to the cause of liberating Nigeria from oppressive foreign rule and securing the future of her children. Their thoughts and actions shaped the identity of Nigeria as a modern nation.
The celebrations of Independence Day this year will be rather RESTRAINED. The reason is obvious, The whole world confronts a deadly virus which has disrupted all activities and taken a huge toll, it has altered the world we lived in before the pandemic.

We have learnt some tough lessons in the year 2020. The invisible virus has demolished the illusion that human being is the master of nature. It is still not too late for humanity to correct its course and live in harmony with nature.

The pandemic, like climate change, has awakened the global community,
We’ve learnt that we primarily depend on our fellow residents for survival and growth. Coronavirus does not recognize any artificial divisions created by human society.

This reinforces the belief that we need to rise above all man-made differences, prejudice, and barriers. Compassion and mutual help have been adopted as basic values by the people in Nigeria.

We need to further strengthen this virtue in our conduct, Only then can we create a better future for all of us.
Cause All Life Mater’s

Peace and security is an essential factor of human life, A peaceful and secure environment is critical to every society since it affects all aspects of economic and social development in a country. These have direct effects on the creation of sound, competitive and equitable economic development, which ultimately has positive impact on the whole society,

It is worthy to note that the world we live in has become increasingly more complex, with new security challenges developing not just on a daily basis but every other minute—counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, just to mention but a few.
No country can develop or grow economically without peaceful coexistence among its populace. The fastest developing nations are among those with the best security structures or architecture, and having peace and tranquility thriving within them.

However, building peace and adequate security involves a wide range of efforts by diverse actors in government and civil society at the community, national, international levels to address the root causes of violence and ensure that people have freedom from fear of humiliation, war and conflicts.
Peace and security, sustainable economic growth and development and the rule of law are essential to the progress and prosperity of all. Every government must be committed to an effective multilateral system based on inclusiveness, equity, justice and regional cooperation as the best foundation for achieving consensus and progress on major security challenges.

on this day I call on all compariots to embrace peaceful coexistence to foster our national development.

I call on the people of Southern Kaduna and the government of Kaduna to intensify efforts at ensuring mutual understanding and cooperation among the people and subscribe to peaceful coexistence.
To ensure the return of lasting peace and peaceful coexistence among all tribal communities in the area, the various people of southern Kaduna should appreciate their differences and respect each other by avoiding hate speeches & actions that often trigger conflicts.

Once again congratulate every Nigerians on the occasion of Nigeria 60th Independence Day Anniversary.
Thanks.

God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Good bless the good people of Nigeria!
Good bless fellow compatriots!

SHEIKH AHAMAD TIJJANI UMAR
