It was a historic night at the Ilaji Sports Resort Ibadan where Ridwan ‘Scorpion’ Oyekola ruthlessly dealt with Lucas Matias Montesino from Argentina to win the coveted World Boxing Federation (WBF) world title belt in Super featherweight category.
Oyekola, after the ten rounds of action-packed bout, was declared winner by the President of the WBF, Howard Goldberg. This declaration was made as a result of the unanimous decision of the judges which gave Oyekola 98 points as against Montesino’s 87.
In other support bouts, Taiwo Olanrewaju defeated Abdullah Adesokan within 47 seconds by technical knockout, (TKO), while Ridwan Lawal also recorded another TKO against Dare Oyewole in the 2nd round.
Ayobamiji Azeez in the third bout defeated Moses Samuel Apata Roro via unanimous decision. Oladeji Abeeb, popularly known as Ige, (Chest) also beat Aliu Akintayo via a knock out in round 4.
The popular Sadiku Akeem Dodo defeated George John Kuffour a.k.a AMULU from Ivory coast with TKO in the fifth round of the continental contest, as Olaide Fijabi retained his WABU belt after defeating Moses Dodzi from Ghana.
In the only female bout, Blessing Godwin beat Adeola Olalere via a TKO to become the winner of the women event.
