Nigeria To Have Four FIFA Standard Football Pitches In 2020 – Sport Minister

The Minister of Youth and Sport, Sunday Dare in a New Year statement has disclosed that Nigeria plans to have four FIFA standard football pitches before the first quarter of this year.

He revealed that efforts are ”ongoing to deliver 4 football pitches Of FIFA standard soon-probably April/May 2020 with things running smoothly.”

Ngg.ng reports that the four football pitches to be affected includes the ones at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, formerly, Liberty Stadium, Abuja Stadium, National Stadium Lagos, and Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

Apart from this, the ministry will in 2020 monitor and ensure the completion of about 20 mini-stadiums across the country. The Imo-model of one mini-Stadium per Local government by each state will be marketed.

The Minister also revealed that the new policy being worked on is to turn sports into business as it brings back sport events like Headmasters’ Cup for primary Schools and Principals Cup for secondary schools, a new Talent Hunt Program, THP, is being finalized as well.
