Nigerian Young professionals, patriots, young captains of various multinational businesses, students union leaders, organized community youth associations and political parties youth wing heads under the aegis of the Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria (ELFON) has called for a National Youth Confab 2021 to fashion a solution to insecurity, disunity and other challenges bedevilling the country.

The Forum, in a statement signed by its national president, Amb. Godstime Chukwubuikem Samuel and made available to journalists on Friday said it reached the resolution after due consultation with various stakeholders and components of ELFON.

Godstime said that ELFON will through the national youth confab attain consensus on workable pathways to durable peace, national unity, security and sustainable development in Nigeria.

“As Emerging Leaders we won’t tow the part of Endsars but will get the best of sound minds from each of tbe Local Government Areas in Nigeria to X-ray where we were, where we are, where we are heading to and where we wish to be. After the confab which will have young delegates; one drawn from each local government Areas of the federation with well-meaning and concerned Nigerian Leaders and Patriots whom we describe as National Timbers and Calibres from all walks of life issued, a very strong public communique drawing the immediate attention of the Federal and State Governments to the Wayforward for sustainable win over challenges of governance in Nigeria,” Godstime submitted.

“Today, we publicly expressed the need for collective action by all, in collaboration with the Nigerian civil society organizations, constituted authorities, well-meaning Nigerians to proffer lasting solutions to these recurrent multifaceted challenges of governance threatening the nation’s existence”, He Maintained.

ELFON is deeply touched by the shared concerns expressed by Nigerians about the unsatisfactory Government’s responses to the challenges of governance in Nigeria hence we call for a confab to assist the government with a template that will foster cohesion, National unity and development.

ELFON as convener of Project Unity Nigeria is motivated by the shared belief that Nigerians of different ethnic nationalities will tolerate their religious and cultural differences to work together conscientiously for the common cause of rebuilding a united and prosperous Nigerian nation, driven by its total commitment to the promotion of durable peace, unity, patriotism, good governance and sustainable development in a united Nigeria is the necessities such as Equity, Justice, Fairplay and the rule of Law are taken to serious.”

The ELFON President said they are desirous of restoring public confidence in the Nigerian State, which the concerned Nigerians argued was heightening the divides in the federation and creating widespread demand for dialogue and consensus-building on restructuring.

In this regard, ELFON invites and welcomes like-minded and willing Nigerian CSOs, domiciled and active within the different geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to join in this onerous task of driving the process of meaningful national discuss between Nigeria’s Emerging Leaders and a select few Eminent National Patriots that could lay a sound basis for the development of the common grounds for durable peace, national unity, security and sustainable development in Nigeria.

“The first phase of this confab is expected to hold this September 2021 as E LFON and the stakeholding CSOs and other groups are have commenced their delegates mobilization and deliberations at the zonal levels.

Although our national challenges are varied and widespread, the zonal level deliberations shall in the next 7days focus on these interrelated thematic areas of Unity, Security, Youth Engagement and CSO-Government Partnerships across the country.

It is important to underscore the point that the role of the CSOs as grassroots monitoring and humanitarian organizations in promoting and advocating for accountability in governance and pushing for the presence of Government in all communities are increasingly being recognized and encouraged by the United Nations, the African Union and ECOWAS, hence the need for partnership between the CSOs and the State and Federal Governments.

At the end of the confab, we shall interface with the Federal Government, Security Agencies, chambers of commerce and industries as well as states and local governments to craft positive pathways forward as well as supportive sets of activities that can contribute to the overall success of the needed nation-building process that can guarantee peace, national unity, youth engagement and sustainable development”.

We will lay bare some hidden truth to make certain corrections for our collective good. It is time to get it right as the theme of the Confab is “NIGERIA FIRST: Enough is Enough”, Godstime concluded.
