First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is calling for urgent action to combat gender-based violence as she joined the global observance of the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Her message shared on X, marks the beginning of the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
She also points to the persistence of harmful practices such as child marriage, and female genital mutilation in Nigeria which are often justified by cultural or religious norms.
While acknowledging the progress in tackling these issues, she emphasizes that many women and girls, particularly in rural and underserved communities, remain trapped in cycles of violence and inequality.
