Supporters of Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and former presidential candidate, have formally proposed a joint presidential ticket pairing Peter Obi with Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general election.
The proposal gaining traction particularly among youth and grassroots political groups is aimed at addressing Nigeria’s deepening insecurity and economic hardship under the current governmen.
Speaking on behalf of the Kwankwaso support groups in Kano Abba Sadauki Gwale urged Nigerians to back the proposed alliance, arguing that it offers a clear alternative to the status quo and a chance to “rescue the nation from its current challenges”.

Gwale emphasised the widespread fatigue among citizens over rising insecurity, hunger, and unemployment, and said the proposed ticket could mobilise broad national support.
The strong support based across the South with Kwankwaso’s formidable political influence in the North could create powerful coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership. They further argue that both Obi and Kwankwaso share a common ambition to deliver meaningful change and improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.
The proposal reflects growing political realignment among opposition figures and factions as the 2027 election season approaches.

Although neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has formally confirmed the ticket, the idea has generated significant public discourse, with some political analysts asserting such an alliance could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape if it gains traction.
Peter Obi, former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has also indicate his intention to contest the 2027 election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following his defection from the LP.
With opposition coalitions becoming central to Nigeria’s electoral strategies, the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket if actualized could represent a major challenge to the incumbent government and significantly influence the country’s political direction ahead of the next general election.
