The University of Port Harcourt Sports Institute will see action once again on Thursday(today January 7, 2021) as defending Champions, Rivers Angels play hosts to Abia Angels in Matchday 4 of the Nigeria Women Football league (NWFL) Premiership.
League games were paused for one week to enable teams celebrate the festive season with their loved ones but business resumes for the Jewel of Rivers who are currently 7th on the NWFL log with 5 points.
Head coach of the Port Harcourt side, Edwin Okon has mixed feelings with the current position of his team. Despite going unbeaten in the opening three games of the season, Okon is still not happy with where they’re seated on the log.
The former Super Falcons coachwants nothing short of victory over Abia Angels who are currently 4th on the table with 6 points.
“We thank God for the break, the business of the season has resumed,” Okon said. If you take a look at the table, our position is very poor.
“It is however a good one because picking two points away and a win at home isn’t that bad because those away games were quite difficult. We want to step into this week’s encounter with a win over Abia Angels. Not saying our opponents are pushovers, we will simply capitalize on our home advantage,” he added.
Rivers Angels thrashed Delta Queens 6-2 during their first home game of the season and Okon says they intend to make the Uniport Sports Institute a slaughter slab.
“We recorded a very good win over Delta Queens in our first home game three weeks ago and I want to maintain than tempo,” Okon continued.
“I’m happy with the fact that my girls are getting very comfortable with playing on natural grass.
“All I want is to make this place our slaughter ground all through the season”, he summed.
Kickoff time for Thursday’s encounter is 4pm Nigerian time.
