A South Australian resident has made history by winning an astounding $150 million Powerball jackpot, the largest lottery prize ever won by a single individual in Australia. This remarkable win surpasses the previous record held by a Sydney nurse who won $107 million in 2019.

The winning numbers for this historic draw were 4, 6, 8, 18, 28, 29, 34, and the Powerball number was 11. A single ticket claimed the entire $150 million jackpot, making it the third-largest lottery prize ever drawn in Australia.

Lottery officials from The Lott confirmed that the winner is from South Australia. The excitement surrounding the draw was immense, with up to half of Australian adults expected to purchase a ticket due to the six consecutive draws without a division one winner.

In addition to the grand prize, nine players, including two from Western Australia, each won a significant sum of $276,036. The two Division Two winning tickets were sold at The Good Grocer Karratha IGA and Midland Gate Lottery Kiosk.

The draw marks the end of a seven-week streak without a division one winner, the last being on January 25. This is only the fifth time in history that the Powerball jackpot has reached $150 million or more.

Anna Hobdell, a spokesperson for The Lott, anticipated high participation, with sales peaking at 6:15 PM on the day of the draw, where 7,455 tickets were sold in a single minute. Matt Hart, another spokesperson for The Lott, highlighted the unprecedented nature of this win, stating, “If just one person takes home this $150 million prize, they’ll make history by becoming the nation’s biggest-ever individual lottery winner.”

While The Lott quickly confirmed there was only a single winning entry, it remains unclear whether the ticket belongs to an individual or a syndicate. Despite the incredibly low odds of winning, statisticians note that the allure of the massive prize draws millions of hopeful participants.

This historic win not only changes the life of the fortunate South Australian but also cements its place in Australian lottery history.
