The National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kamorudeen Ajisafe, has revealed that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is currently battling a “platform dilemma.”
9news Nigeria reports that this is as the PDP faces a crisis that may prevent it from fielding a candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Speaking on a radio programme Frank Talk monitored by Vanguard on Monday, Ajisafe said the PDP’s internal crisis makes it difficult for the party to present a governorship candidate before the December 15 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He noted that the opposition party’s crisis worsened due to the alleged rebellion of some party leaders, leaving Governor Adeleke with little choice but to consider alternative parties ahead of the August 2026 poll.
He said: “Let me tell you, if anything happens in Osun, it has to do with looking for a platform to contest.
“Where is the platform to contest now? The problem we have in Osun is quite different from Taraba. Our election is 2026. The primary for any political party is December 15. After that date, INEC will not recognise any emergence of candidate again.”
He added: “It is absolutely known to the whole world that there is no way the PDP would be able to nominate a candidate for the 2026 governorship election. What do you expect Adeleke to do? Should he stay in a party where he cannot exercise his right to return to office?”
“The party suffered the same fate in Ekiti because of Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s rebellion. That is why Adeleke must find a platform to exercise his right,” he said.
Meanwhile, Indications have emerged that Osun governor is already in talks with Accord Party and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as possible vehicles for his re-election bid.
Sources told Vanguard that emissaries from Adeleke’s camp have opened discussions with Accord Party leaders, while others say the governor is keeping multiple options open to avoid losing the ticket.
