Owerri Zone’s Agitation: A Call For Justice And Unity In Imo State Governance

The agitation by the people of Owerri Zone to produce the next Governor of Imo State has found a worthy champion in Chief Charles Orie, a trusted and visionary leader.

Though Chief Orie hails from Orlu Zone, he has deep-rooted ties with the Owerri people, especially through Ohaji/Egbema, which shares both cultural and geographical proximity with Owerri Zone. Ohaji is not only a neighbor to Owerri but also shares the same traditions, values, and community spirit, making them natural allies in this political pursuit.

It is important to recall that in 2010, the people of Owerri Zone, in collaboration with the administration of Governor Ikedi Ohakim, acknowledged Ohaji/Egbema as part of the Owerri political family.

This recognition led to strategic political alignments where some local governments from Orlu Zone were considered for inclusion in the Owerri Senatorial District. The people of Ohaji/Egbema embraced this vision and have since stood firmly behind the Owerri cause.

Chief Charles Orie’s candidacy represents a unique convergence of interests—a symbol of unity between Orlu and Owerri, and a bridge to lasting equity in Imo State. His emergence would signify the presence of Owerri-aligned leadership in the Government House, Owerri.

At this crucial time, he is the only leader we can trust to generate a governance model that equally serves the people of Okigwe, Orlu, and Owerri Zones.

We do not need a leader who will betray the trust of our people. What we seek is a government that delivers door-to-door benefits, a government that listens, and a government that acts—and Chief Charles Orie is that man.

Furthermore, Chief Orie is well-positioned to align with the enduring legacies of Governor Hope Uzodinma while raising the bar for inclusive development across the state.

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees every eligible citizen and zone the right to contest in elections. Now is the rightful time for Owerri Zone to rise—and Chief Charles Orie is the bridge between aspiration and actualization.
