Kano was thrown into a festive and politically charged atmosphere on Sunday as the National Leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, hosted former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Senator Seriake Dickson during his annual Eid (Sallah) celebration at his residence on Miller Road in Kano State.

The event attracted a mammoth crowd, with enthusiastic supporters chanting “Obi! Obi! Obi!” alongside “Kwankwasiyya!” as Senator Kwankwaso acknowledged the visiting political figures amid visible excitement from attendees.

In a message shared on his official Facebook page, Kwankwaso expressed delight over the visit, writing:

“Delighted to host Their Excellencies, Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and Seriake Dickson at my Kano residence for this joyful Sallah celebration. Wishing everyone peace, blessings, and prosperity. – RMK”

The 10th Annual Sallah Celebration hosted by the NNPP National Leader also drew several high-profile dignitaries, including Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam, NNPP National Chairman Dr Ahmed Ajuji, NNPP vice-presidential candidate Isaac Idahosa, and prominent political figure Naja’atu Bala Muhammad, alongside lawmakers, party stakeholders, community leaders, friends, and family members.

Addressing the large gathering, Peter Obi emphasised Kano’s strategic importance in Nigeria’s national development trajectory, declaring:

“We want to bring back the power of Kano.”

The visit formed part of Obi’s broader consultations across key political blocs ahead of the 2027 general election cycle, which analysts say is gradually gathering momentum across the country.

Similarly, Governors and political leaders present at the event extended Sallah greetings to the people of Kano State and Nigerians nationwide, offering prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity.

In a related development, Obi also visited Kaduna State, where he met with stakeholders of the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). During the meeting, he stressed the need for competence-driven politics and stronger institutional collaboration to rebuild Nigeria’s unity as preparations intensify toward the 2027 presidential election.

The Sallah gathering, according to a statement issued by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to Senator Kwankwaso, brought together prominent NNPP members from the National Assembly and Kano State House of Assembly, as well as supporters from across the state who came out in large numbers to celebrate with the former governor.

Observers note that the convergence of major opposition political figures at the Kano event has further heightened public interest in evolving alliances ahead of 2027.
