Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have arrested a dismissed police inspector, identified as Danjuma Yusuf, in Plateau State for his alleged involvement in an interstate arms trafficking network linked to terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements.
According to military source, Yusuf was apprehended following credible intelligence reports. Troops intercepted his vehicle at a military checkpoint in Makera, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State leading to the recovery of a cache of items.
Recovered exhibits include two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, pepper spray, a jack knife, cutlasses, multiple mobile phones, police identification materials, ATM cards, National Identification Number (NIN) card, and N73,300 in cash.
Investigations suggest the suspect played a significant role in a weapons supply syndicate operating across several states.
The network is believed to have supplied arms and ammunition to various criminal groups, including terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers.
Yusuf remains in military custody as security agencies intensify investigations to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicates, including financiers, collaborators, and weapon suppliers.
The arrest is seen as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen security across the country.
