An expert in Health Nutrition Mrs Oby Ogbonnia, has called on Government and the Consumer Protection Commission CPC to enforce its policy on thorough check and approval of consumer’s products across the country.

The check and approval by the authorized agency of Government will help to stern down circulation of fake and adulterated and expired Products in NIGERIAN markets.

Ogbonnia pointed out that our craze for money and materialism has exposed us to so many dangers of il health.

She said it is disappointing that in our time there are so many food items and drinks in the market that we prepare and consume as food when they are more of poison.

When we use toxic chemicals to process and prepare some of our food should we be surprised that so many ailments are threatening our health as well as sending so many to their untimely graves.

While exposing the secrets of this hazard to the health of citizens and the kind of bad names bad products bring to the country, Oby Ogbonnia revealed that the popular plantain chips are fried with colourless soft water-proof bags.

She gathered from a reliable source that the water-proof bags are dropped in the hot oil and are caused to melt in the hot oil after which the raw plantain pieces are dropped into the hot oil mixed with the melted water proof bags.

She further stated that the presence of the water-proof bags melted in the oil would cause the sliced plantain not to break as well as look very appealing to consumers.

It has also been revealed that our appetizing and energy- giving cassava Fufu has also been adulterated with detergents so that when the cassava tubers are assembled in a container with water to ferment, the detergent is sprinkled on the cassava in the water.

The process according to source causes the tubers to soften fast so that no residue is left out until everything is dissolved under the catalytic influence of the detergent.

This type of Cassava Fufu when seen on display in the market place by these killers of destiny could be identified by the bright- whitish colour with extraordinary soft and tender appearance that one could mistake it for white maize meal ‘Agadi’ in our local parlance.

Also, the Garri that we consume which the cassava tubers are grated, dried and fried the same day or within 24hrs without any room for proper fermentation to reduce and neutralize the Cyanide content which is found in such unwholesome processed Garri grains.

Meanwhile, science has revealed that the grated cassava tubers should be wringed in a sack with a view to extracting the poisonous cyanide contained in the watery substance and left for at least between three and four days for it to ferment very well so that the risk of taking the toxic substance is drastically avoided.

Why are we killing ourselves by allowing such Products to fill NIGERIAN Markets whereby granting free permission for fake Products?

While speaking to 9News Nigeria Abuja, Oby Ogbonnia frowned at this urgly development and called on Government, the Consumer Protection Commission CPC and the Ministry of Health to wake up to brace up for the challenges of sudden and untimely deaths and other health risks associated with these unhealthy sharp practices.

She however wondered why people indulge in such killer and fake businesses targetted at giving the country a dirty name.

The same fake, adulterated and expired products are prominent in some brand of vegetable oil, Beverages, Alcoholic drinks, Sugar, Salt, Insecticides, Disinfectants, Wine, Drugs, Drinking water and others.

The source added that sweet banana that people use carbide to fasten the ripening is the worst sold in our Markets.

Species of Banana

It is revealed that the people who indulge in such businesses want to be seen as people who are ‘making it’ own landed properties, dress gorgeously, drive costly cars and live in good houses, the so called ‘progressives’ who does that intentionally to kill and ridicule the economy therefore deserves to be punished.
