The National Police Council on Monday confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.

The confirmation was done at the meeting of the council, conveyed by President Bola Tinubu in line with the provisions of the 1999 constitution.

Following the confirmation by the council, Disu’s name would now be sent by the President to the Senate for screening.

9news Nigeria recalls that President Tinubu, lastweek, accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector-General of Police following the submission of his letter citing pressing family considerations.

The President received the resignation letter on Tuesday and expressed appreciation for Egbetokun’s service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.

Disu has now been confirmed as the substantive IGP at the Police Council meeting held on Monday.

Those at the meeting included Vice-President Kashim Shettima,  the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam.

Others were Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Hashimu Argungu, and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of Lagos State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State also attended.
