Lagos State Police command, yesterday, destroyed drugs and banned substances worth N400 million at Elegbe Refuse Dumpsite in Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The destroyed drugs and banned substances included bags of Indian hemp, cocaine, tramadol among others.

Speaking at the destruction site, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Imohimi Edgal, explained that the drugs and banned substances were recovered during raids of criminal hideouts in the state and other sales points.

Edgal said: “When I assumed office as the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, I stated clearly that I will fight crime and criminality through different sources.

“There is a great nexus between drugs and crimes. In fact, the two forms or basic elements for committing crime are availability of arms and drugs.

“This why I have taken very seriously the fight against drug sale and use in the state. I have been receiving a lot of assistance from other security agencies.

“We must ensure that our society is safe from drug dealers and that drugs are mopped off our streets, so that our children and even adult will not be able to get these drugs and banned substances as easily as one can get candy or a bottle of coca cola or any other beverage.

“Such substances are harmful to health and should not be sold easily in our communities.”
