The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed that the explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibiyi Village, Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly brought to the school by three suspects from Katsina State.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
Following a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibiyi, a team of police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa, was swiftly mobilized to the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the three suspects had visited the school owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, with the explosive device. While tampering with the IED on the school veranda, it detonated, killing two of the suspects instantly.
A female trader and the third suspect sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The injured suspect remains under police guard as investigations progress.
SP Adeh confirmed that remnants of the explosive device were recovered by the FCT Bomb Squad, which has verified it as an IED.
The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to security agencies.
