The House of Representatives on Tuesday condemned the recent killings of 40 people in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The legislative body urged the federal government to prevail on the security agencies to intensify their operations, deploy more security personnel as well as fighter aircraft to tackle the activities of bandits in Giwa and Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State.
This came on the back of the adoption of a motion by Shehu Balarabe (APC, Kaduna) who noted that bandits had continued killing and kidnapping innocent civilians.
He said: “These armed bandits attacked and shot dead Hon. Rilwanu Aminu Gadagau, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, representing Giwa West Constituency on Monday 13 December 2021 at Dumbin Raiga, a few kilometres away from Zaria.
“These armed bandits on Saturday 18th of December 2021 massacred 40 persons in Ruheya and Kauran Pawa villages within Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, they burnt several houses, destroyed many vehicles and motorcycles, as well as other properties.”
The House also urged the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development as well as the National Emergency Management Agency and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons to provide support for victims and displaced persons.
