ABUJA (9News Nigeria) – The Federal High Court in Abuja has again adjourned the trial of Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore on the basis that the solicitor was not available.

According to a tweet by the presidential candidate and founder of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore expressed disappointment with the Nigerian Judiciary citing that the excuse was a repetition of what happened during a previous appearance on the same case.

Sowore stated that during their court appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja today, the presiding judge claimed they were not prepared because the previous prosecutor had been transferred out of the Ministry of Justice. He said despite strong arguments from his lawyers to have the case dismissed, the judge decided to adjourn the proceedings once again having done that previously.

Sowore tweeted: “We were at the Federal High Court in Abuja today in furtherance of #RevolutionNow #ShamTrial by the Nigerian government, we arrived court ready for trial but as typical of the FGN they said they’re not ready, claiming the last prosecutor has been transferred out of the Ministry of (In)Justice. Again, our lawyers argued strongly that Judge discard of the case but the judge adjourned again after “warning” he would dismiss the case if they are not ready! Remember it was the same threat last time!”

Tweeter: @YeleSowore

Sowore was arrested in August 2019 by the Department of State Services (DSS) for organizing a protest tagged “Revolution Now,” which called for an end to corruption and political reform in Nigeria. His arrest drew international attention and condemnation from human rights organizations, who called for his immediate release. After several months in detention, he was eventually released on bail in December 2019.

The Nigerian government accused Sowore of planning to disrupt public peace through the protest and charged him with treason, money laundering, and cyberstalking. Human rights organizations, both within Nigeria and internationally, criticized the arrest as an attack on free speech and peaceful assembly.

Sowore’s activism and political aspirations have made him a prominent figure in Nigerian politics. He continues to advocate for good governance, human rights, and social justice in Nigeria.
