A Community development inclined organization under the auspices of OKOFIA PROGRESSIVE YOUTH MOVEMENT(OPYM) has donated a security gate to Okofia community in Otolo Nnewi.
The commissioning took place on Sunday the 15th day of August 2021. The event was witnessed by members of the OPYM led by her President Hon. Amobi Okonkwo(Anunuebe Nnewi), Vice President of Okofia Community Amb. Emmanuel Obi, National Leader Nnewi Youth His Youthfulness Amb. Paul Muoneke(JP) and several other stakeholders of Okofia community.
Speaking to the press after commissioning the project, The National leader of Nnewi Youth,Paul Muoneke appreciated the innovation brought to the community by Okofia Progressive Youth Movement, describing it as very important community project that will benefit all members of the community as well as visitors and commuters. He applauded the leadership of OPYM for such wonderful project.
Vice President of Okofia Community, Amb. Obi told newsmen that the youth group means well the community and as such the entire community applaud this great fit. He was pleased at the level of coordination expressed by the community youths, how they were able to attract such meaningful project to the community. He opined that the community being a host to a federal institution needs such projects so as to secure students who reside and study in the community. He equally gave his support to the youth movement and promised that the community leadership will always support the visions and missions of the group.
The President of Okofia Progressive Youth Movement, Hon. Amobi Okonkwo who spoke to the press during a joint interview said that the purpose of erecting the gate is to strengthen the security network in the community. He said the state of insecurity in the country demands that such project be initiated.
Taking questions from the press, he assured that the gate will not serve as a point of tax collection or money extortion but will be for the purpose of checkmating inflow of persons in and out of the community especially at night hours. He assured that the gate will be manned by the community security team.
Secretary to the group, Mr. Chinedu Osumuo described the road as main access to the community that hosts College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and as such, the youths are concerned about the deteriorating level of security in the state, it is important to invest in the security of life and properties. He said that constant check of persons coming into the community will help combat crimes and fish out criminal elements.
Okofia Progressive Youth Movement has further plans of installing road signals around the area so as to give directions to persons coming into the community. They are committed to the progress and development of the Community.
