Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Chief Whip of the Senate, has officially picked his nomination and expression of interest forms to seek a second term representing Borno North Senatorial District.
The move ends speculation about a potential run for the Borno State governorship in the forthcoming general elections.
Sen. Monguno currently serves as Chief Whip of the 10th Senate, a principal officer position responsible for maintaining party discipline and coordinating legislative business on the floor.
He represents Borno North Senatorial District, which covers 10 local government areas in the northern part of Borno State.
First elected to the Senate in 2023, Monguno previously served multiple terms in the House of Representatives before moving to the upper chamber.
As Chief Whip, he plays a central role in the leadership of the Senate and in the affairs of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus.
Sen. Monguno’s decision to return to the Senate marks a key step in his political journey.
He said the bid reaffirms his commitment to sustaining quality representation, effective legislation, and impactful constituency projects for the people of Borno North.
His legislative focus has included issues of security, reconstruction in the North East, and infrastructure development across his district.
The forms were picked ahead of party primaries as political activities gather pace nationwide.
With his Senate bid now formalized, attention shifts to the APC’s primaries in Borno North and to the broader lineup for the governorship race.
9News Nigeria has reported earlier that Engr Mustapha Gubio has picked the governorship aspiration form in Borno, marking the first aspirant to officially declare his interest in the race.
