Popular American movie star, Dwayne Johnson popularly known as The Rock has apologized after he and Oprah Winfrey received heavy criticism over their request for public donations for their Maui wildfire fund.
In late August, The Rock and Winfrey announced they had set up the ‘People’s Fund of Maui’ to help the victims of the wildfires.
According to the duo, they each donated $5 million to start the fund and asked the public to donate anything they could to the cause.
However, In a video he posted to Instagram, Johnson said that he understands why people were upset by their actions.
He also revealed that the first round of funds from the charity has been sent out to the victims
“The last thing you want to hear when you are living from paycheck to paycheck is someone asking you for money, especially when the person asking you for money already has a lot of money… I understand and I could’ve been better and next time I will be,”Johnson said.
