Former Governor and Senator of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has reiterated the need for Nigeria to elect an Igbo President.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels TV program, on Monday, Kalu emphasized that while the presidency should rotate to the Southeast, the region must present a candidate acceptable to all Nigerians.
“There is a need for an Igbo President. However, the Igbos must present a candidate who can unite the country and gain the confidence of all Nigerians.” Kalu stated.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about political zoning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While the Southeast has long clamored for a turn at the presidency, Kalu stressed that national acceptability remains crucial in securing widespread support.
The former governor has been a strong advocate for Igbo political inclusion, previously calling for unity among Southeast leaders to enhance their chances in national politics.
