This guy had been disturbing me for a relationship since January this year. I didn’t want to say yes immediately. I took my time to watch him and to know if he truly meant well. After all, love can find anyone anywhere.
After going back and forth, I agreed to date him in July. Within the first week of our relationship, he already started telling me all his problems, his life struggles and how he was working on a house project. We were not even two weeks into the relationship when he started begging me to lend him money, claiming he had run out of cash and urgently needed 50k to buy cement and complete plastering in his house. As a supportive girlfriend, I lent him the money.
Two days later, he came again saying the money wasn’t enough and begged me to lend him another 100k. I still helped him. Even though he clearly had financial issues, I didn’t want it to look like I was rejecting him just because he was broke. So I continued supporting him.
Soon after, he asked for another 50k for NYSC registration so he could join the next batch. I still gave it to him. Everything was now 200k.
He promised to return the money after one week, once he received the balance from a land he sold. After one week, he only sent me 50k, leaving 150k unpaid.
Another day, someone he owed called and threatened to expose him for a zinc he bought without completing payment. He begged me to lend him 250k to settle the bill. I still helped him, just to save him from embarrassment.
Another time again, he asked for 50k to complete his house rent because he was owing his landlord. I still gave it to him. You may judge me, but I was just trying to help someone who seemed to need help. I trusted him because he claimed to be a pastor and he moved with respected people. There was a time he spoiled my phone screen during an argument and he promised to repair it for me.
But when things started becoming suspicious, I started discovering more things about him. And the more I found out, the more I started stepping back.
When we started dating, I asked if he was with someone. He boldly said he was “single to stupor.” I asked about his ex, he said he had none. I asked what he wanted from me friendship or something serious so I could set boundaries. He said he wanted something serious with me.
Later, I found out the truth. He was actually in a relationship, and still communicating with the lady. But he told me he had already cut her off. I also discovered the number of people he was owing, including some girls here too which I have evidence of. That was when I stopped caring too much and tried to protect myself.
Altogether, the money he collected from me was about 500k with extra 10k. When he came back to borrow again, I told him I won’t borrow him again until he paid me what he owed. All this borrowing started the first month we started dating, and he promised to refund everything by August.
Even after I stopped lending him large amounts, it didn’t end there. Whenever I visited him and there was no food, and he complains of not eating since morning ,i stopped in and used my money to buy food so he could eat. I can’t count the cash hes been getting from me and the es he secretly took from my handbag in the name of transport.
Because of his constant demands, I told him I was tired of the relationship. It was too much. This is a man I never asked for anything not even money for clothes because he was always acting broke.
Things got worse when the same girl he was dating before me came fully into the picture again. He once told me they only had a one-night stand, but she was always calling him. One night when i visited, while I was holding his phone, watching reels, a message from her popped up. That was how I found out he was still in a serious relationship and I was the one being used. I clearly told him i do not want the relationship anymore .
He promised to block her. Sometimes he would block her in my presence, but behind me, he would unblock her and keep chatting. At that point, I was already emotionally done , i was just there trying to recover my money.
He promised to pay me in August, but August passed and he kept giving excuses that the man owing him hadn’t paid. Not knowing he was paid but used the money for something else. Later, he said December. I told him no I couldn’t wait anymore. That I need my money.
I have proof of every transaction, which I will attach.
I was tired of his excuses because he didn’t want to pay me back. He then promised to sell his fridge and generator so he could refund me. I even helped him market them.
Yesterday, I went to his house to get my money. After dragging for long, he finally paid me 200k at night and promised to send the balance in the morning. But this morning, he started begging again for a second chance. I told him no, that I was done.
While I was in the bathroom taking my bath, still hoping to get my balance and end everything, then stepped out of the bathroom , I didn’t know he was recording me. He then threatened to send the video to someone to post if I wasn’t careful. He showed me the video and said if I tried anything “stupid,” he would publish my noodles .
People who were interested came to buy the fridge and generator and paid him. Then he sent my balance of 310k. My phone he spoiled, he refused to give me the money to fix it. I used my own money and he promised to refund it too along side with my balance.
He got me a wristwatch and bracelet on my birthday and paid 20k for my business registration, which he has already taken them back.
Now, all the money he’s been collecting from me, including the foods i used to buy for him, transport money and the phone he spoilt is more than 600k in total. Close to 1 million naira.
I did not do anything wrong, the deception was becoming too much and I had to wisen up and when he knew I had wisen up, he started threatening me with my noodles.
