International premium brand, Tiger Beer, says it will launch the Tiger Street Football tournament in Nigeria from Oct. 11 to Oct. 25 to promote grassroots football.
Portfolio Manager, Premium Brands, Maria Shadeko, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
Shadeko said the competition would kick off in Awka, Anambra, and feature non-professional players drawn across the country.
According to her, the five-a-side tournament will allow students, hustlers and hidden talents to form teams of eight and compete in a knockout format, beginning from the round of 16.
Shadeko said winners would get N5 million, while the second-placed team would receive N3 million. The third and fourth-placed teams would receive N1 million each.
She explained that each city would host its own full competition, culminating in a one-day spectacle of semi-finals and finals.
She stressed that the event would go beyond football matches, featuring halftime parties and live cultural experiences to reflect the rhythm and resilience of the streets.
“Tiger Street Football is not just about football, it is about the people. It is about recognising talent, celebrating community and giving Nigerians a platform to shine where football feels most alive in the streets,” Shadeko.
The company noted that the initiative would celebrate the fearless energy of Nigerian youths and provide opportunities for discovery of new talents.
“The tournament is inspired by the rich culture of street football that had produced stars such as Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo and Victor Osimhen,” she said.
